China’s cities are growing at breathtaking speed and often in an uncontrolled manner. Making use of existing space in the inner-city will become an increasingly important topic in future, and with the shortage of resources and available sites the discussion of sustainability has today already begun. Here the present project provides food for thought and a proposed solution.
Like hanging gardens the office of the future will revitalise the unused facades of existing department stores, multi-storey car parks and warehouses.
At leading online companies such as google or ebay, working in teams consisting of two or three people has proved to be an ideal solution, on the model of the research teams at universities. Correspondingly the concept is based on a vertical arrangement of two-person or four-person offices, which are surrounded by hanging gardens with conference rooms, restaurants and exercise facilities.
Each individual PLACE 2.5 in the four-metre deep ‘second’ facade layer enjoys daylight and fresh air. The infrastructure of the existing buildings will be upgraded and put to use.
The project is a radical vision for the sustainable densification of the modern city.
