The findings of specialists in occupational medicine and sleep researchers have been incorporated by Sedus into the design of a new product. ”open up”, an office chair for sitting and lying, caused a sensation when it was first presented at Orgatec 2000, the international office trade fair. It allows a quick nap, just as it permits working in a relaxed posture. The backrest with the new ”Similar” mechanism provides a large reclining angle of about 40 degrees, coming close to a lying posture. The adjustable headrest supports the head and neck even when they are tilted forward to look at a monitor screen.
”open up” was awarded the ”iF Product Design Award 2001” by Industrie Forum Design in Hanover.
The ”ottoman”, a leg support on castors or glides, completes the lying posture. A notebook computer can be operated on the adjustable ”work assistant”. A gas lift mechanism allows quick and easy adjustment to any height, for a sitting or lying posture. Fully extended, the ”work assistant” becomes a lectern.
