With se:hive, Sedus continues to expand its modular product family for open-plan work environments, responding to the growing demand for flexible, acoustically effective zones in contemporary offices. Openness meets versatility: se:hive combines visual structure, textile comfort and well-considered functionality. Whether used for focused individual work, dynamic team collaboration or relaxed breaks, se:hive creates zones that seamlessly balance atmosphere and function. At the same time, it preserves the open character of modern workplaces while enabling retreat, interaction and inspiration.
The expanded se:hive system can now also be used as an open, visually structuring element in a range of sizes and shapes. The current collection has also been extended to include a single-user retreat with an integrated table in two base formats (rectangular or hexagonal), an enclosed configuration with integrated sofa elements, and a fully upholstered bench. This flexibility allows se:hive to be applied across a wide spectrum of settings, from individual workstations to larger team zones. Extensive customisation options, a broad selection of textiles and optional add-on elements enable the creation of acoustically shielded areas for focused work, as well as comfortable lounge zones for informal exchange and inspiring meeting points in open-plan offices.
“The new models further advance the system concept behind se:hive while expanding its range of applications,” explains Konstantin Thomas, industrial designer at Sedus. “The aim is to translate the core principles—separation, acoustics and flexibility—into different spatial contexts, from individual workstations to team zones. The core idea remains unchanged, while adaptability has been significantly expanded. se:hive is not intended to be a closed product, but a growing system—a tool that evolves alongside the needs of its users.”
Sustainability is no longer optional—it is a given, including in product design. “The material we have chosen for se:hive is a strong example of this approach,” says Thomas. “It comes from the Black Forest, a region with a deeply rooted tradition in wood processing. The wood-fibre filling material is partly made from reclaimed wood, reducing resource consumption and placing the concept of upcycling at the forefront. It is a material that tells a story while demonstrating how ‘waste’ can be transformed into something of lasting value.” The sustainable choice of materials underlines Sedus’s commitment to environmentally responsible workplace solutions. The interior structure made of wood-fibre boards is 100 per cent recyclable, while the fabric is stretched rather than glued, ensuring maximum reusability.
Collaboration with regional suppliers further contributes to reducing transport-related emissions. Further insights into the development process behind se:hive are available in an interview with Konstantin Thomas in the current issue of LOOKBOOK No. 03.
