Why Workcafés?
A well-designed Workcafé is much more than just a break area:
- Encourages social interaction
- Supports mental recovery & focus
- Strengthens hybrid work culture
- Creates inspiring atmospheres
From Concept to Realisation: The Structure Behind Workcafé & Co.
The “Applications” brochure breaks down the design of Workcafés into a structured model based on three key layers:
1. Worksettings – Functional Zones
These settings form the foundation of each composition and are divided into four categories:
- 01 Prep: Areas for coffee preparation, such as counters and kitchen modules (e.g., setting prep/A)
- 02 Soft: Lounge zones with upholstered furniture like sofas and armchairs (e.g., soft/A, soft/F, soft/R)
- 03 Hard: Work areas with tables and chairs (e.g., hard/A, hard/N, hard/H)
- 04 Comp: Complementary elements that connect and complete all zones
2. Archetypes – Spatial Characters
Each Workcafé archetype represents a distinct usage concept – from vibrant zones of encounter to quiet spaces for retreat. Matching products and settings have been carefully assigned to each archetype.
3. Compositions – Space Concepts to Recreate
Each composition combines several settings and is available in three sizes:
- Small (~35 m²)
- Medium (~50 m²)
- Large (~80 m²)
The illustrations show how individual worksettings are structured (e.g., soft/A or prep/A) and on which pages of the brochure they are explained in detail (e.g., p.12, p.15, p.01). This allows architects and planners to easily select suitable configurations.
Workcafés Shape the Future of Work
Workcafés are far more than just a passing trend. They are a reflection of changing work cultures and a vital component of contemporary office design. By combining functionality, comfort, and atmosphere, they create spaces where people feel good, think creatively – and look forward to being at the office.
The “Workcafé & Co. Applications” brochure is a valuable guide for all those looking to rethink and actively shape tomorrow’s working environments.
