Climate targets at Sedus: a new milestone on the road to climate responsibility

The focus is not on short-term successes, but on effective measures, transparent decisions and meaningful partnerships. Sedus systematically reduces emissions, makes conscious investment decisions and takes responsibility along a clearly defined path.

Sedus' climate targets at a glance

In line with its commitment to Science Based Targets, Sedus has defined ambitious targets to reduce direct (Scope 1) and indirect emissions (Scope 2 and 3), using 2021 as the base year:

  • By the end of 2025: 30% reduction in direct emissions compared to the base year
  • By the end of 2030: 50% reduction in direct emissions compared to the base year
  • By the end of 2050: 90% reduction in direct and indirect emissions compared to the base year

In addition, Sedus has set the following target:

  • Climate compensation for administrative and production sites

All targets follow a clear principle: emissions are primarily avoided and reduced. Unavoidable residual emissions are responsibly offset.

Reduction and compensation: two building blocks, one goal

The reduction targets and CO₂ neutrality are closely interlinked:

  • Emissions reduction is achieved through concrete technical measures such as more efficient energy use and the deployment of new technologies.
  • Compensation offsets the remaining emissions that are currently unavoidable through climate protection projects.

The greater the actual reduction, the lower the need for compensation. This principle consistently guides Sedus' climate strategy.

Progress and implementation in practice

Direct emissions had already been substantially reduced by the end of 2025. A key component of this is the conversion of the heating system at the Dogern site to heat pumps.

Due to external delivery delays affecting this key technology, the systems were commissioned later than planned. As a result, the targeted 30% reduction is now expected to be achieved in 2026.

This adjustment in timing underlines a central principle of Sedus' climate strategy: effectiveness and quality take precedence over speed.

A conscious step: the new compensation partner

In parallel with the technical implementation, Sedus has deliberately taken the time to establish a long-term, sustainable and credible solution for climate compensation – instead of relying on short-term or purely formal measures.

In Wilderness International, Sedus has found a partner that consistently shares its own commitment to sustainability and corporate values.

What sets this collaboration apart:

  • A foundation-led charitable organisation – with a similar understanding of values to Sedus
  • A clear focus on the long-term protection of wilderness areas
  • High transparency, long-term responsibility and traceable impact
  • Sustainability based on long-term conservation rather than short-term compensation logic

This partnership strengthens the credibility of Sedus' climate strategy and forms an integral part of its long-term commitment.

A new milestone – climate-compensated from 2026

With the selection of partners now complete, Sedus will climate-compensate the emissions from its administrative and production sites starting 1 January 2026.

This step complements the ongoing reduction measures and marks an important milestone on the path towards long-term climate responsibility.

At the same time, the focus remains firmly on the future. The goal for 2030 is clearly defined: the reduction of direct emissions by 50% will continue to be pursued through technical improvements, efficiency measures and the consistent expansion of renewable energy.

Responsibility means consistently continuing on the path

For Sedus, sustainable action means combining ambitious goals with realistic, robust measures. Decisions are made carefully, progress is communicated transparently, and the chosen path is consistently pursued.

Transparency is not merely a reaction, but an expression of a clear commitment – today and in the future.
